Genetics for psych meds?

Genetics for psych meds? Yes! The future is here, but remember these tests do NOT tell you what medications will work. They will tell you what medications you are more likely to metabolize well (or tolerate better without side effects)>

Don’t get me wrong, I love these tests, but I do usually reserve them for people who are having trouble tolerating the medications. They don’t really let us know what medications will work, they do tell us how to dose medications and some of the tests may explain why some people are medication resistant.

A transparent DNA helix elegantly spirals through a minimalistic space, capturing the intricate beauty of genetics in a sleek, modern design.

I do think these tests will eventually become standard of care. My favorite company is Tempus. I have everyone’s records stored on my Tempus account that I can pull up anytime. It’s a database as well as a medical record. The database is helping them build new information, especially about women and minorities who have been traditionally underrepresented in the original research.
