So many women tell me that they “don’t feel like myself postpartum.” And I feel this in my heart and my brain. Pregnancy does a lot of trimming back on brain structures to make room for all the learning postpartum. Treatments like zuranolone and brexanolone (the new FDA approved meds for postpartum depression) all target improving neuroplasticity (or learning) in the brain. I like to think learning is the key to treatment of mental health problems in general, but especially postpartum!
